News I Missed - Many Best Buy's Have 3DS Demo Kiosks, Right Now!

Well this a surprise. Turns out many Best Buy's all over the country have gotten demo kiosks for the 3DS in the last three days or so. I commented about how Nintendo's 3DS television commercial would be better suited to debut as close to demo units going up as possible, without knowing that demo units had in fact gone up right along side the commercial. Last I heard, GameStop wasn't getting their demo kiosks until the 25th of March, so I assumed that would be the earliest any store would get them..... I wonder if GameStop's J. Paul Raines is feeling lousy.

I decided fairly long ago that I wasn't going to visit any of the demo kiosks since I was preordering the 3DS; I'd like to keep the 3D and menus as magical as possible. But what about you guys, are you going to or have you already visited your local Best Buy to see the 3DS in person?

  1. I've visited the one on my way to/from school twice, in the last two days...both times on my way home from school.

Nothing in the stores, and no employees in the section to ask...and I'm sure not about to hunt one down...so I'll just keep checking each day, because it's right off the highway.

  2. That sucks. I figured you would definitely try out one of the demo units because I know you're still unsure about it. I stopped by my local Best Buy, just to make sure they had it because my brother would be into trying it out early.

They had the blue one on display.
It's kinda odd how much they're pushing the blue at the general public, but all the units that the big gaming sites are getting are black. More "hard core", I guess.

  3. I'm just going wait until the release day to play. Just nine days left until the 3DS is out

True, but I looked at my Amazon pre-order the other day, and they kicked the predicted delivery day forward another day. Can't complain, I guess, since I scammed a free 2 day delivery out of them.

I was going to ask you to tell me when/if your local Best Buy gets a 3DS kiosk, if you can pick up the 3DS (i.e., it's not bolted down). My brother tried out the 3DS at a Best Buy, and recalled that it was bolted down, which I thought was terrible because of how the 3D effect works, but a recent video from Kotaku seems to indicate that it's distance from your face doesn't really mean you won't see the 3D effect.

According a friend on his site preview of a Best Buy demo unit, the system is held down with a very strong magnet...

Oh, brother. He should get a laugh out of this.

  8. I really love trade-ins! Now I'm only paying $134 for my 3DS so I'm happy for the moment

  9. If my DS and DS lite weren't "broken", then I might consider trading those in because of the higher price of the 3DS, but if it was another $100 - $180 system, I doubt it would cross my mind. I hate how I love holding on to stuff for sentimental reasons.
